AGUIEIRA DAM

The Aguieira Dam is one of the most imposing in Portugal, with more than 90m in height. It offers the best of nature in a stunning landscape that allows for various water sports, including windsurfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, kayaks and jet skis.

GASTRONOMY

The typical dish of the Mortágua region is the chanfana . Made with sheep meat and roasted in a clay pot in a wood-fired oven.

In order to celebrate this delicacy, every year the Lampantana festival is held , usually in the month of October/November.

"TASQUINHAS"

In August you can enjoy the festival popularly known as "Tasquinhas" . There are five days of celebration, socializing, entertainment, music, arts, sports and the best of local and regional cuisine.

When visiting the village, you can watch one of the most spectacular forms of automobile competition, the Rally de Mortágua. In terms of dates these over the years have been different, however it is indeed a spectacle not to be missed.

THE VILLAGE

Hidden by mountains, valleys, rivers and roads, Mortágua is a quiet Portuguese village located in the region of Dão-Lafões, in the District of Viseu, and which is surrounded by nature making it a true natural refuge.

Considered as the “green gold” of the region, the forest that surrounds this village occupies about 85% of the municipality's territory and is one of the largest forest patches in the country. Also turned by the Serra do Caramulo and Serra do Buçaco, Mortágua ends up being described as the place where the green of the landscape extends to the horizon and where nature stands out, it is the ideal setting for those who like to enjoy the outdoors.

As the name indicates (in portuguese), Mortágua is a region with abundant water and where you can admire the superb water mirror of Albufeira da Aguieira, but not only that, as you can find countless rivers and streams with crystal clear water, cascades and small waterfalls with a huge natural beauty.

The quiet village of Mortágua offers a place where you can enjoy your stay, a natural refuge that invites for its calm and tranquility.

An event organized by the Municipality of Mortágua and featuring a program that combines, in addition to economic activities, the demonstration of local products, entertainment, local cuisine and sporting events linked to nature and adventure tourism. This event normally takes place in May.

You can also go discover the river beaches in the area with beautiful landscapes that you can enjoy. Among them you can visit the Fluvial Beach of Nossa Senhora da Ribeira and the Fluvial Beach of Vimieiro where we guarantee you will have a magnificent day.

RAILS AND VIEWS

Surrounded by vegetation and water, in Mortágua you will find the "Pedestrian Route of the "Water Falls of Paredes".Clear waters, vegetation, small ponds invite you to take a walk along this route of about 7km. You can also visit in the center of the village the "Cabeço do Senhor do Mundo" with a unique view of the region.
